No family, no one to lean on, and no place to confidently call home.

But despite the challenges, these kids STILL DREAM just like everybody else.

Imagine how different their lives would be if someone actually supported their dreams…

It's a chaotic season of choosing the perfect fluffy pillows, comfy bed sheets,
and decorating dorm rooms to reflect your unique personal style.

An anticipated next step in life that soon-to-be HBCU students can’t wait to experience!

Can you imagine what it feels like to watch your roommate's family joyfully unpacking a mountain of supplies and essentials on move-in day while you sit across the room with no one and barely anything to unload?  This is the harsh reality for hundreds of young adults aging out of the Foster Care system and entering HBCUs, every year.

We are a group of like-minded folks from all walks of life who have banded together with our time AND talents to support an underserved demographic within the HBCU community.

Just like the original mafia takes care of its own, the MIDM provides assistance with the HBCU move-in experience to take care of OUR own, with a mission of disrupting the "Foster care to Prison" pipeline and replacing it with the "Foster care to HBCU graduate pipeline.
Move-In Day Mafia, in partnership with Planet Bougie, a philanthropic TV production company, first began because of the age-old game of Bingo. You read that right...

BINGO!

When COVID-19 snatched graduation ceremonies away in 2020, in less than 4 weeks, TeeJ & her Rolodex of brands, crew, & a few celebrity friends launched an epic Saturday night BINGO party that took the country by storm! Move-In Day Mafia is the divine brainchild of TeeJ Mercer, an award-winning Hollywood TV editor & producer who’s rocked her genius on Hollywood Box Office hits like “Shrek,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “The Incredibles, “Kung Fu Panda,” “Night School,” “Shaft.” Plus, networks like ABC, NBC, MTV, VH1, and BravoTV just to name a few…

But she also has a heart to always help those in need! She’s made it her life’s mission to make sure NO HBCU student begins their college journey alone! Shining a light on students from foster care who are often forgotten & often have no one to help them with their college transition.

This self-described loud, proud, and insufferable grad of the best HBCU, “THEE” Howard University, created a powerhouse of resources for the HBCU community known as Planet Bougie!

“Planet” because for 4 years HBCU students are insulated in a world of their own & “Bougie” because no matter the school we rep, we all bask in the same BOUGIE love for our community.

For monetary donations, several companies have a "Matching Gifts Program" that encourages their employees to increase their financial giveback to support the nonprofit community. Check with your benefits department or Human Resources to see if there is a Matching Gift program and how does it work in terms of their matching your gift to Move-In Day Mafia.

For example, does it work on a dollar-for-dollar basis to qualifying organizations? What amount, as an employee, are you eligible to give to Move-In Day Mafia that your company will match? Don’t forget to share the Move-In Mafia giveback opportunity with your fellow employees so we can continue to support this often-overlooked population of the HBCU community.
